Airedale Terrier

There is a breed of dog out there that is growing in popularity. It is called the Airedale terrier. The Airedale terrier dogs are growing in popularity due to their dog show success lately. These dog shows have been showing people into the lives of many different breeds of dogs. Even the unheard of or new ones.

The Airedale terrier is a very intelligent and loyal human companion. This dog can also be known as the Waterside terrier and the Bingley terrier. This dog originated in Great Britain and has been known to make them very wonderful additions to their families. The Airedale terrier dogs grow to be about twenty three inches tall and usually weigh between forty four to fifty pounds when fully grown.

These Airedale terrier dogs are prone to some serious physical problems. They are very susceptible to skin and eye problems and even hip dysplasia. If they are in good health with proper diet and exercise, they can live to be about fourteen years old. If the problems occur have them taken care of by a vet right away. Be sure they are on a supplement for joints too.

Besides being a very loyal family pet, the Airedale terrier dogs are very playful animals. They are good at living in a home with lots of different pets. They are also very gentle with older children as well. Smaller children are a different story. They may tend to get a bit TOO playful with the smaller ones. They would not purposely hurt them, but they do not know any better. They just want to play. They can also be taught many tricks and are very easily trained. House training seems to be a breeze with them along with tricks and simple commands.

To care for the Airedale terrier dogs, you have to brush them daily with a stiff bristle brush. The dead hair and dander must be removed to keep the skin from problems. They also need a good bit of exercise at leas once a day. This is not a good breed if you live in a small apartment. They need the room to run.
